Talking about the game of poker is like talking about drinking - why the hell would you talk about it when you could be doing it? It is perhaps America's greatest contribution to the modern gaming world - after Rounders, there was no turning back.

And american's should be a bit proud - Poker is a thinking man's game - not for the faint of heart, weak of mind, or those who cannot stand up for themselves. This may all seem like lip service, but if you already play, you know I'm not kidding. You can't play Texas Hold'em no limit poker for money without having some guts, wanting some glory, and stealing some pots.

I've tried to put the monstrous breadth of information that is understanding poker into a nicely packaged little website, but it's just impractical to try and serve the novices and the experts all from one place. Besides which, the experts have some long-standing, high-quality internet resources already available to them, and they likely don't mind having to wade through the poor html design and nightmareish navigation. Two + Two's site design isn't going to chance anytime soon, and nobody's going to match their quality poker theory content any time soon either.

Once you're good, you can go elsewhere. But until you're calculating pot odds when you need to, and reading like a pro, all the advanced game theory in the world isn't going to make you any more money. What you need is a sound foundation to play the game of Texas Hold'em well. That's what I'll provide here. No links to stupid online casinos, just honest advice on how to play face to face Texas Hold'em Poker better.

Even Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson has said it - he's amazed that people can play no limit hold'em so well without the backing in mathmatics and theory that he has... but they can. We've all seen some not so great poker players get lucky and earn millions in the WSOP main event over the past couple of years (not Raymer, he's the real deal imo) and that confidence it gives the rest of us is real. It's not easy to play against the pros and win, but any one of us can do it. Any one of us, on a good day, can beat a pro. No other sport in the world gives you the chance to play a serious match against the icons of the game.

That's why poker is something special. Its the everyman's game. Anyone can become world champion. But it sure as hell ain't easy.
